Does PASS/FAIL
Grading Negatively
Affect GPAs?

In most cases, no.

However, it's important to understand how PASS/FAIL grades are interpreted.

A student receives a "PASS" if his grade is a D or better, and a "FAIL" if it is an F.

Most colleges will not calculate PASS/FAIL grades into the student's GPA (this is how FastTranscripts.com works) and besides the NCAA, we have not found evidence of any colleges assigning GPA value to PASS/FAIL courses. That doesn't mean it's not happening.

The NCAA Eligibility Center does assign a letter grade of D for courses with a "PASS" grade.

We recommend using PASS/FAIL for courses like Driver's Ed 🚗 , PE ⚾ , Piano/Violin 🎹 🎻 , etc.
