The Two Sides of
Every College
Application

College applications are evaluated from 2 points of view: the academic side of the application and the student side of the application.

🧑‍🎓 An "academic" reading of an application consists of course rigor, grades, test scores and academic recommendations. While these more measurable outcomes are important, they should NOT be the only focus when applying to college.

👩 The "student" reading of an application tells the story of the student. Here the essay, extracurriculars and even alumni interviews provide a more personal view of the applicant.

Too often there is such a heightened view of the academic side, that the student's personal narrative appears flat or weak.

Stress the "student" side so their true self shines through and comes across well on paper.
